Early Years

Dave was born in Niagara Falls, Canada on April 24, 1957.  He was the third of four siblings.  He grew up in a well loved middle class home.  Dave was shy and quiet as a child but grew to be inquisitive and outgoing as a teenager.  He graduated from high school in 1975 as a solid “B+” student.  To further challenge himself, Dave went on to college and received an “Applied Arts” diploma in 1978.

Careers

As a teenager, Dave worked for the Niagara Parks Commission during the summertime near the Falls.  This exposed him to tens-of-thousands of tourist from all around the world.  It also introduced him to various types of cameras. The biggest change and career challenge came shortly after college.  Dave joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was trained as a radar/plotter in the Navy.  He sailed the oceans and saw the world while on tour. He also met his future wife Lisa while stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1980.  Dave left the Forces and returned to Niagara Falls to start a family.  He worked various odd jobs until he was trained as a welder.  Dave finally found good employment but had to relocate his family to Barrie, Ontario.  It was there that he worked hard making heavy truck axles for the next 24 years in an assembly plant.

Photography

Over the years, photography became Dave’s passion for creativity.  As a young person, he traveled across Canada and through the Eastern United States. His skill at taking pictures became better. As a young man in the Navy, Dave started using expensive 35mm cameras while in Europe. His shooting in color came to a quick end in 1999.  While taking a day tour to photograph the colors of Canada’s autumn, Dave’s color camera broke.  He didn’t want that to ruin the day so he finished the trip by shooting black and white in his other camera.  The results were life changing. Dave fell in love with black and white. Since then, he has traveled many miles in search of that perfect photograph, that unique shadow or that simmering light.  His passion has grown so grand that Dave has decided to share it with the world.
